Have you checked craigslist.org? There is a section on there where you can swap houses. You can have someone spend a few days (week) in your house and you can stay in there’s. When I went to Mexico we rented a condo (check local newspapers) and it was MUCH cheaper than staying in a hotel. Just go grocery shopping – as for airfare – definitely check http://www.sidestep.com. It’s hard for us to figure out what it would cost you b/c flights etc vary based on the time of the month (leaving on a tuesday or wednesday are usually cheaper) plus we don’t know where you are flying from. Another option for flights is to check hotwire. (www.hotwire.com) since they are typically the cheapest although you won’t see your flight times until after you have booked. I have used them before and been fine.

Don’t get a package … just shop for flights. Then you’ll know what you have left. You should be able to get something for $400-450 each round trip to Mazatlan or Vallarta.

Then go shopping at web sites like this for places to stay

    Greetings,
Remember that the only stupid question is the question not asked. Your question is viable and important because you want to show your daughters that you appreciate their hard work for getting good grades. You may email me at cassandra@godsgirl2travel.com and I will be happy to search for you. I will need the ages of your children. If you would like to search for yourself, visit http://www.ytb.com/godsgirl2travel and click on vacations. You will have 4 companies to search for your all inclusive trip to Mexico all on one site. Hope this helps…and Great job kids on your grades, keep up the good work.

yes you can! shoot for Puerto Vallarta, it’s cheap, and activities for all ages. Go to applevacations.com or funjet.com. Because you are on a budget, go for the All inclusives, you will save $ doing this, because you won’t have to pay for food, drink or in most cases non-motorized sports. I don’t know if you are sold on MX totally but also try the Dominican Republic it’s cheap as well. Call a travel agent and tell them you want a last minute deal to Mexico. My friend and I flew from Chicago last November to Puerto Vallarta for $650 PP all inclusive, for 7 days. I pulled up your location and just entered in some scenarios and found trips to the DR, MX, Jamaica for about $800 PP so that tells me that you have a good chance of getting a last minute deal if you call an agent.

I seriously doubt you can find what you want for that price. I am an American living in Baja California Sur, and you used to be able to get here from Los Angeles for $330/rt per person on AeroCalifornia, but they were grounded in April and although they are now flying again, I believe they are not yet going to the states. Another idea would be to drive here, as I do, and it is quite affordable with AAA Mexican insurance ($500/yr, $10/day, cheaper rates if you go over one month). Hotels down the peninsula run $25-45 a night for a double, and there are many interesting places to see along the 1000 mile peninsula. It is not for the faint of heart, though, and your car must be in top running condition. It is also very hot here right now in the south, as it is hurricane season until late Oct. or early Nov. Pleasant Holidays has some good packages to places like Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan which is fun, I’ve seen deals from them for about $500 per person including air and hotel, some include breakfast. You can see what they have at “pleasantholidays.com”. I just looked at them and they start at $341 per person, and some include a rental car. Pleasant holidays is a reputable company and offers great deals because they due huge volume in many places. Good luck to you!
