I think you need to consider the type of traveling that you are doing. Not all airlines allow dogs to travel. All airlines limit the number of dogs that are in the cabin at any time, and you can be asked to have your animal travel in the cargo hold at any time, or risk being forced to another flight. In addition, the dog will need to stay in their carrier during the entire flight, per Federal Aviation Laws. Air travel is very stressful on a dog. So if you are doing a lot of air travel, I’d reconsider bringing any dogs, let alone a companion dog.
In addition, you also need to consider the hotels you may be staying at. Again, not all allow pets, and some charge exorbitant pet fees.
Don’t get another dog. If you want your dog for a companion while you travel it should be crate trained for ease of travel and hotel accommodation etc. While you are at work the dog can stay in the crate. You can both get exercise before and after your work. Getting another dog will create several problems while travelling and staying in different places. Your dog might not even like the new one.
