My friends are planning to go to Vietnam and Cambodia for about a week. If I here from people who have visited these countries, love. Any tips on cheap but decent accommodation, food, best places to go and things to do? Or some example route? Any personal experience will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ^ _ ^ We really are not on the beach or swimming are we more about the famous places, must-see must,-do, best places for the first time tourists. We would also like to sample the local cuisine.
Any travel tips for Vietnam and Cambodia, sample itinerary for the must-see places in these countries?

Kind of hard to give specific recommendations without knowing what you like to do. If you want some beaches, for example, Vietnam is going to have far more options than Cambodia would have.
Cambodia:
Angkor Wat in Siem Reap is a *must see* attraction. Angkor and the Bayon temples are incredible sites to see (more info: http://www.hoteltravel.com/cambodia/siem_reap/guides/sightseeing.htm). Angkor Wat has been the most impressive cultural site I’ve seen during my travels throughout Asia & it can actually take several days to get around the major temples.
Vietnam:
It depends on which city you’re going to largely stay around. If I had my choice, however, I would go to Ha Long Bay and Ho Chi Minh.
Food:
Will generally be very cheap in either country if you want to try the local cuisine.

There is so much to see and do in Vietnam as it is a very diverse country, the north is very different to the south which is very commercialised. I have travelled to Vietnam twice and the highlights for me were Sapa, Halong Bay and the Mekong Delta. In Cambodia you just have to visit Angkor Wat. If you can only travel for one week I would recommend either focusing on the north or the south but a bit difficult to combine both in just one week as you will be on the go the whole time. When are you looking at travelling because the weather can make a big difference. If you are looking at travelling mid year than you are better off staying in the north as it is wet season in Cambodia and South Vietnam.
